A travelogue from one of our travel participants

Our next flight took us to Rio de Janeiro, where our local tour guide Hermann welcomed us and took us to our hotel directly at the Copacabana. The next day we took the bus to the foot of Corcovado. From there we started the ascent with the rack railway, which leads through the Tijuca National Park up to the 710 m high Corcovado. The world-famous 38 meter high Christ statue hid in the clouds for a while. So the view to Rio and the Copacabana was a bit cloudy. The fog patches that were passing through the city always ventilated a different point of view on this impressive city like in a theatre.
The following day we took the gondola up to the 370 m high sugar loaf. The view to Rio, the Copacabana, the beaches and the offshore islands was simply outstanding. Afterwards we made a city tour and visited different sights of the city, like the city cathedral, the Maracanastadion and the Sambodromo, in which annually the carnival is celebrated in Rio.
With a part of the group we stayed in the city and explored the historic old town of Rio on foot. Later in the evening we were surprised by a tropical rain. Unfortunately, the next day was also a little rainy, so that the planned bathing day in one of the many beautiful bays literaly went into the water a lot. Instead, we looked at the company H. Stern, the processing of precious stones coming from Brazil and the further processing to unique jewelry, which is delivered all over the world.

After four days in Rio we flew to our next destination Foz do Iguaçu… (continue reading the article in the next post Iguaçu)
